Answers to common questions about Spacemap, and how to contact us.
I replaced some videos, but my free space didn't go up.
The originals stay in Recently Deleted in Photos for 30 days and keep using space until then. To free it now, open Photos › Collections › Utilities › Recently Deleted and delete them.
If I buy more iCloud storage, will my iPhone have more space?
No. Your iCloud plan and your iPhone's own storage are separate. A bigger iCloud plan doesn't change free space on the iPhone.
Are the date, location and albums kept?
Yes. Date, location, favorite, caption, keywords, rating and position in albums are carried over. Each new file is checked automatically, and if any check fails, the original stays where it is.
Is anything not carried over?
People tags are recognized again by Photos on the new file. Memories that used the original may change. Copies in shared albums aren't touched.
Are 60 fps, HDR and Dolby Vision kept?
Yes. Videos are re-encoded as HEVC with the same frame rate, HDR and Dolby Vision. Two quality levels keep the resolution; two others reduce it to 1080p or 720p. You can compare before you replace.
How does photo compression work?
Each photo is re-encoded as HEIC. At the two higher quality levels, Spacemap tries several settings on each photo and keeps the smallest file that passes its quality check, so the resolution stays the same. If a photo is already small, the original is kept. Animated photos, RAW, bursts, Live Photos and edited photos aren't included.
Can I keep a different frame from a Live Photo?
Yes. Open a Live Photo and drag along the strip to any frame. You can keep the original photo, one or more frames, or both, and each becomes its own still photo. Frames come from the short video, so they have fewer pixels than the original photo.
How do I get an original back?
Within 30 days of the replacement, open Photos › Collections › Utilities › Recently Deleted, select the item and tap Recover.
Why can't Spacemap reduce System Data or app sizes?
iOS doesn't let apps change other apps or system storage. You can see the breakdown in Settings › General › iPhone Storage.
I chose Limited Access. What can Spacemap show?
Only the items you selected. Measuring the whole library needs full access. You can change this in Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos › Spacemap.
Does Spacemap use cellular data?
Only to download originals that are stored in iCloud when you convert them, and only if you allow cellular downloads in the app's settings.
Can it find similar photos or clean up contacts?
No. Spacemap isn't a cleaner. It shows what is using space and replaces large videos and photos with smaller copies.

Spacemap is a paid app with a one-time price on the App Store. There are no in-app purchases, subscriptions or ads. You can download it again for free from the App Store with the same Apple Account.
